Hyundai’s flagship model in India, the Ioniq 5, has just been recalled over a potential issue related to its integrated charging control unit (ICCU). Over 1700 units manufactured right from its India launch in January 2023 to April 2024 could have this faulty part, which will be replaced for free if found faulty.

For the uninitiated, the integrated charging control unit (ICCU) serves as a converter for the battery. It takes the high voltage of the main battery and converts it into a lower voltage that’s used by the secondary 12 V battery. Moreover, it also enables the vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, which allows the Ioniq 5 to send charge to other devices.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Specifications

If the ICCU is faulty, it could cause an increased load over the 12V battery, causing it to discharge. Subsequently, the essential electronic components that are powered by that 12V battery won’t receive any power and eventually fail. Imagine losing out on AC functionality in this scorching summer heat!

To avoid a situation like that, you can take your Ioniq 5 to the nearest Hyundai dealership or workshop to get the part inspected. Although, Hyundai itself will likely get in touch with you automatically to schedule an inspection. If the part is found to be faulty, it will be replaced at the marque’s cost.
