Ola Electric’s engineers are in the midst of cooking something intriguing, as CEO Bhavish Aggarwal dropped a short teaser of the company testing out what looks like ADAS on the S1. ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, and here’s a quick look at what Ola is working on:

What we’ve just seen could be the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), which is an enhancement of the cruise control system, as it automatically adjusts the speed of the vehicle by scanning for obstacles and other motorists using radar-based or camera-based sensors.
There are quite a lot of modern four-wheelers that are equipped with ACC, like the Hyundai Verna and the Toyota Innova HyCross; very few extremely high-end two-wheelers come with this tech. If ACC on the Ola S1 does come to fruition, it would join an elite list of bikes like the Ducati Multistrada V4, BMW R 1250 RT and KTM Super Adventure R.

Even if you’ve not read the last line aloud, you’d see how much of an overkill this feature sounds for an electric scooter. ACC feels at home on motorcycles that are meant to munch endless miles at high speeds effortlessly on long highways, rather than electric scooters that are claimed to offer 141km range in Eco mode, wherein speeds are capped under 40kmph, and will primarily be ridden through congested city streets.
What Ola could rather do is equip the S1 with a camera to help customers record their rides, something like what a dashcam does. Even MotoVloggers may find such a feature useful. Heck, even Ola would then have footage from accidents or incidents that would help them fight against all the ‘myth building and mudslinging’ that the company is currently claiming to be facing.
Jokes aside, whether ACC makes its way to the Ola S1 remains to be seen, as the company has kept pushing the bar in terms of innovation when it comes to features. After all, the S1 was the first e-scooter in India to come with cruise control. We, however, also feel this may be a build up to a nice April Fools’ Day prank and await Aggarwal’s tech demo soon.
