It looks like BYD India will be launching a new model later in July as suggested by a LinkedIn post by Ketsu Zhang, Chairman and Managing Director of BYD India. While the carmaker is officially yet to reveal details about what is coming, our dealer sources have revealed it will be a new entry-level variant for the Atto 3 electric SUV.
In fact, a select few are even taking bookings for the Atto 3’s upcoming base variant ahead of its expected introduction in July. Here’s what all one can expect from the new Atto 3 variant.
The BYD Atto 3 base variant is likely to get a smaller 50 kWh battery pack as opposed to the current one, which gets a 60 kWh unit. This is expected to be teamed up with the same 204 PS / 310 Nm e-motor. So one can expect a drop in range over the 60 kWh model, which can do 480 km in the NEDC cycle.

On the positive side, the new Atto 3’s base variant will have a more attractive starting price over the current model, which is priced at Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom). BYD could also remove some of the niceties such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
The BYD Atto 3 currently comes loaded with kit such as a rotating 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, a 5-inch digital driver’s display, multi-colour ambient lighting, powered front seats and a panoramic sunroof.

Passenger safety is taken care of by seven airbags, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control and ADAS.
The introduction of the Atto 3 base variant will surely make it a closer rival to the likes of the MG ZS EV. It will also face competition from plenty of upcoming models such as the Maruti Suzuki eVX and Hyundai Creta EV.
