Should retain all the thrills of its coupe counterpart aside from the changes up top

Shortly after Maserati debuted the MC20 sports car in September 2020, the carmaker confirmed the MC20 will get an open-top iteration as well. Fast forward to the end of 2021, and Maserati has released teaser images of the MC20 convertible wrapped in a camo livery.

At a glance you’d be hard-pressed to find any differences compared to the coupe counterpart, with the MC20 convertible still sporting a sleek, poster-worthy design. But the differences are clear to see when looking at the roof. Despite the disguise, the roof structure and roofline look quite distinct, with the windshield being replaced by a new panel with the roof-reclining trickery tucked underneath. Despite all these changes, Maserati claims the MC20 convertible will still be made out of carbon fibre and composite materials.

The cabin will likely remain largely unchanged, featuring a mix of carbon fibre accents around the centre column, steering wheel and paddle shifters, as well as Alcantara and stitched leather on the rest of the sports car. Tech such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Amazon Alexa, Maserati Connect with navigation, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, and a wireless smartphone charger should also be retained.

Under the hood, the MC20 convertible will most likely soldier on with the same 3-litre twin-turbo V6 motor that pushes 630PS and 730Nm, and is paired to an 8-speed DCT gearbox like on the coupe. It can hit 0-100kmph in less than 2.9 seconds and top out at a top speed of over 325kmph. The convertible isn't the only thing on the way for the MC20, as the carmaker has also confirmed an electric iteration of the sports car.

Expect Maserati to take the wraps off the MC20 convertible around early 2022. For India, we could have the coupe arrive in the country around late Q1 2022 at a price tag  of around Rs 3.5 crore (ex-showroom India). It will take on the Ferrari F8 Tributo and the upcoming India-bound McLaren 720S.
