While one is Maserati’s first electrified SUV, the other is the newest sports car from the Italian Trident

Maserati looks set to have an action-packed 2022 in India as the carmaker has the Levante Hybrid SUV and the MC20 sports car launches lined up from the second quarter of 2022 onwards. Here’s what to expect from the upcoming models.

Levante Hybrid

Starting with the Levante Hybrid, slated for India launch in Q2 2022, it first debuted at Auto Shanghai 2021 as the Italian Trident’s first electrified SUV and the second electrified model after the Ghibli Hybrid. Its powertrain setup will be a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system making a combined 330PS and 450Nm. Paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel drivetrain, it can hit 0-100kmph in 6 seconds and a top speed of 240kmph.

Powertrains aside, the Levante is finished in a special Azzurro Astro blue shade and gets blue accents on the air ducts, brake calipers, C-pillar logo and the seams on the seat embroidery, imparting its hybrid identity. It also comes with Maserati Connect technology that gives service alerts to the driver which can be synced with a smartphone, smartwatch, or even at home via a virtual personal assistant, such as Amazon Alexa or Google Assist.

After earlier reports that suggested Maserati’s newest sports car would arrive by Q1 2022, it's now confirmed that it’ll arrive by Q3 2022. Unveiled globally back in September 2020, one of the MC20’s party tricks lies in Maserati’s new in-house-developed Nettuno 630PS 3-litre twin-turbo V6 engine with five drive modes, F1-inspired tech to lower emissions, and improve fuel consumption. With the help of an 8-speed DCT gearbox, the 0-100kmph sprint is achieved in less than 2.9 seconds and tops out at speeds over 325kmph.

Other notable performance tricks up its sleeve include a monocoque carbon fibre frame making it a featherweight, at 1500kg. Its sleek, aero efficient body allows for a drag coefficient of under 0.38, and it also boasts a power-to-weight ratio of just 2.33 kg/hp.

As poster worthy and racy it looks on the outside, it is just as premium on the inside with a mix of Alcantara and stitched leather in the cabin. It’s also got neat tech in the form of a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Maserati Connect with connected navigation, Alexa virtual assistant, and a wireless smartphone charger.

Expect the Maserati Levante Hybrid to be priced at a premium over its internal combustion engine counterparts that are priced from Rs 1.49 crore to Rs 1.64 crore (ex-showroom). The carmaker has already begun accepting bookings for the electrified SUV. As for the MC20 sports car, we could expect a price tag around the Rs 3.5 crore (ex-showroom) mark. It will go up against the likes of the Ferrari F8 Tributo and the upcoming India-bound McLaren 720S.
