This is the first generational update the GLC, one of Mercedes’ most popular sellers in the Indian market, has received

  • 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC teased in India, draped in camo.
  • It gets a sleeker exterior design and an interior that’s similar to the new C-Class.
  • Existing 2-litre petrol and diesel engines likely to be updated with mild-hybrid tech.
  • Likely to command a notable premium over the outgoing model, which is priced Rs 62 lakh.
  • Expected to launch in the third quarter of 2023.

Mercedes-Benz has begun testing the 2023 GLC on our shores and has teased the SUV covered in a unique three-pointed star camo. The second-gen GLC is slated for a debut sometime in the third quarter of 2023, so you can expect it to go on sale anytime from July to September. It has always been one of Merc’s popular cars and the successor aims to take it one step further with its quintessential design and opulent cabin.

The 2023 GLC is instantly recognisable as a GLC, as the design is more of an evolution over the current model. It does look a whole lot sleeker, thanks to the sharper set of headlights that flank a larger grille with aggressively styled bumpers underneath it. Its profile has smooth lines and curves while the 10-spoke alloys add a dash of flavour. Sleek connected tail lamps and dual exhaust tips round off the overall design.

Where the GLC is revolutionary and groundbreaking is on the inside. The dashboard design is similar to the new C-Class and your eyes will be drawn to the 11.9-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system that’s the centre piece here. Other design touches this author particularly likes is the meticulously crafted turbine style AC vents and the splashes of ambient lighting that elevate the cabin at night.

The outgoing Mercedes-Benz GLC came with two engine choices: a 197PS 2-litre petrol (GLC 200) and 194PS 2-litre diesel (220d). These engine choices have been retained here as well, but now both of them have been electrified with mild-hybrid tech and a tad more power. So you can expect the same to be carried forward to the Indian model.

If you’re interested in knowing more about the 2023 GLC, including its features list and other powertrain choices, head to our detailed unveiling report. We suspect it’ll command a notable premium over the outgoing model that was priced from Rs 62 lakh (ex-showroom). Once here, it will renew its rivalry with the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60.
