In order to compensate for the rising input costs, the prices of the Renegade Commando and Renegade Sport S have been hiked to Rs 1.64 lakh and Rs 1.57 lakh respectively

UM Motorcycles

UM Motorcycles, a JV between UM International and Lodia Auto, have announced a hike in prices for their product range in India. The Renegade Sports S previously carried a sticker price of Rs 1.49 lakh. Now, with a hike of 5.36 per cent, the bike has been priced at Rs 1.57 lakh. On the other hand, the Renegade Commando, which was previously priced at Rs 1.59 lakh, is now priced at Rs 1.64 lakh with a hike of 3.14 per cent. The company has mentioned that the reason for the prices hike is to offset the impact of rising input costs and other costs of operations. Both the price revisions are effective from January 1, 2017.

Renegade Sports S

UM Motorcycles’ current product portfolio for India consists of the Renegade Sports S and Renegade Commando. Both the motorcycles share the same powerplant: a 280cc single-cylinder engine that develops 25.34PS of power at 8,500 rpm and 21.8Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. The motor comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. The bikes come with an 18-litre fuel tank and have a kerb weight of 172kgs. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. Stopping power is achieved from a single disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear.

Commenting on the price hike, Rajeev Mishra, director, UML, said: “This price revision is on account of increase in the cost of raw material and other cost of operations. We have rationalized the costs, but taken care that impact is minimal. We also continue to offer finance at attractive interest rates for customers to enter the brand.”

Both the cruiser motorcycles are manufactured locally at Lodia Auto’s Kashipur facility in Uttarakhand. The local assembly of the bikes has allowed the brand to achieve the competitive pricing and also support the Government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
