Here Are 5 Interesting Facts About Triumph’s Newest Streetfighter

Triumph has launched its all-new Trident in the UK. The naked motorcycle now undercuts Triumph’s Street Triple range and like it, features an in-line triple motor. The new Trident is an important motorcycle for Triumph and will come to India as well. Here are five interesting facts about the Triumph Trident:

It is a compact motorcycle

The Triumph Trident is, in fact, narrower and shorter than the KTM 390 Duke. The compact dimensions and taut bodywork make it less intimidating for newer riders. Its 805mm seat height too is lower than the Duke and should help make the Trident easier to manage. 

It is more feature-packed than the Street Triple R

Despite heavily undercutting the mid-spec Street Triple R, the Trident gets more features than the mid-capacity roadster. Besides all-LED lighting, the Trident features a colour TFT instrument console. It also gets Bluetooth connectivity-based navigation, GoPro control, call receiving and music control. These can be navigated through a joycube on the left switchgear, like the Tiger 900.  

It is the only triple in the segment

While other motorcycles in the segment feature twin and four-cylinder motors, the Trident gets an inline triple motor. Its 660cc Euro 4-compliant motor delivers 81PS at 10,250rpm and 64Nm at 5,000rpm. While the numbers seem lower than the competition, the new motor offers up to 90 percent of torque between 3,600rpm and 9,750rpm. Accessible torque, anyone? It impresses in the rider electronics department as well. You get two rider modes, each with dedicated engine maps, traction control and ABS intervention levels. It even gets a bi-directional quickshifter as an optional accessory. 

It is lighter than the Royal Enfield Himalayan

The Triumph Trident weighs a scant 189kg kerb. This makes it not just the lightest motorcycle in its segment but also lighter than some 400cc motorcycles. The lighter weight should make the new motorcycle more manageable for newer riders. 

It will be the most affordable Triumph

In the UK, the Trident is priced at GBP 7,200 (around Rs 6.93 lakh). By that yardstick, the new Trident is expected to cost around Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. If our calculations are right, the Trident will be the most affordable Triumph to be sold in India. It would still cost a lakh more than the Kawasaki Z650 but still be a lot more affordable than the upcoming Honda CB650R.
