Mahindra To Auction First Unit Of The New Thar To Battle COVID-19

• Proceedings from the auction will be donated as charity to battle coronavirus.
• The #1 Thar will be based on the top-spec LX trim.
• Winner will get to choose from six colour options.
• Prices for the new-gen Thar will be revealed on October 2.

Owning a special vehicle such as the Thar can be a dream come true for some. And to make this occasion even more special, Mahindra has announced that the serial no 1 second-gen Mahindra Thar, dubbed the ‘Thar #1’, will be auctioned for charity. Registrations for the bidding are open on Mahindra’s official website and you can register by paying a refundable deposit. The auction will be held between September 24 and September 29 and the proceeds will go towards fighting the coronavirus pandemic.  

The manufacturer will also add an equal amount for charity. The winner will get to choose from three options to donate the charity amount: Naandi Foundation, Swades Foundation and PM Cares Fund.  

But that’s not all. Mahindra will ensure that the Thar #1 will stand out from the crowd to denote it’s the first series production model on our roads. For starters, the Thar #1 will be based on the LX trim and the buyer can choose from six colour options. The SUV will also feature a customised ‘Thar #1’ badge along with the owner's initials on the exterior. The seats and the dashboard will feature a number ‘1’ embossing as well.  

Bookings for the new-gen Thar are set to open on October 2, which is when Mahindra will reveal the prices as well. The Thar will be offered in three trims: AX, AX Opt and LX. You can have a look at our detailed variants explained story here. It will be offered with two engine options: a 130PS 2.2-litre diesel and a 150PS 2.0-litre petrol. Both engines are offered with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.  

Prices for the new-gen Thar are likely to start from Rs 9.75 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival the upcoming Force Gurkha and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
