Maruti Suzuki has bitten the bullet and launched the Swift AMT in the top-spec Z+ variant. Previously, the two-pedal tech was offered in all variants save for the L and Z+. Prices for the top-spec Swift AMT are as follows:
(ex-showroom Delhi)
The Z+ AMT commands a premium of Rs 47,000 compared to the equivalent manual variants. If you compare prices with the Z AMT variant, then the price difference works out to be Rs 80,000. What does that extra cash get you?
On the outside, the Z+ variant is easily distinguishable thanks to the addition of the automatic all-LED projector headlamps with daytime running lamps (DRLs), and machine-finished 15-inch alloy wheels. Other feature additions include a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as a reversing camera.

Engine options remain expectedly unchanged. The new Swift Z+ AMT is available with both petrol and diesel engines. These are the familiar 1.2-litre petrol (84PS/114Nm) and 1.3-litre diesel (75PS/190Nm) that are paired with a 5-speed AMT.
R. S. Kalsi, senior executive director (marketing & sales), Maruti Suzuki India, said, “Swift has always scored high on customers’ expectations. With the latest evolution, the all-new Swift has reached the next level of customer delight. AGS has been very well appreciated by our Swift customers. We had customer feedback seeking convenience of AGS in the high-selling top-end variants. Accordingly, we are now offering AGS in the top-end ZXI+ and ZDI+ variants. This will further strengthen the brand Swift and enhance the popularity of Maruti Suzuki’s acclaimed two-pedal technology.”

Maruti’s Swift joins the ranks of the Ignis, Baleno and the Dzire in offering a fully-loaded automatic variant. We’re hoping other manufacturers take a cue from this and offer a top-spec automatic too. After all, why should one be forced to choose between ease of use and good-to-have features, right?
