Now, the most common dictionary explanation for the title to Maruti’s latest limited edition model, the ‘Genus’ refers to a group of species exhibiting similar characteristics. Well that being said it should come as no surprise if I say that the new Ritz Genus looks quite similar to the conventional Ritz that has so far managed to sell like hot cakes in India owing to its quirky styling and remarkable fuel efficiency. However, a closer look at the emerald blue beauty reveals hidden jewels both on the outside and in its plush interiors.
Retaining the best attributes of Brand Ritz, the new Ritz Genus comes with several exciting features. A brand new signature colour, 'Emerald Blue' is the most apparent change. This body shade is however, accentuated through the Genus’s matching door handles and body colour rear view mirrors. Smart body graphics run all along the length of the limited edition compact car, giving it a distinctive appeal. Body side moldings add character, while the rear is enhanced with a back door garnish.

Taking a peek inside the Ritz Genus, you will realize what has exactly gone into making this car fit for the “special limited edition” tag attached to its freshly painted body. Seat fabric and door trims in the original Ritz were fresh to begin with. A dual tone dashboard now adds to the overall appeal of the inside job on this Genus edition. For music lovers, the car has been equipped with Radio and CD with speakers and tilt-adjustable steering. Other customer-friendly features include keyless entry, rear wiper-cum-washer, and a rear parcel tray.
Speaking on the occasion of the cars launch on 27th August, Shashank Srivastava, Chief General Manager (Marketing) said, “Limited Editions are our way to bring excitement to the showrooms. We have excellent experience with Limited editions in the past. While they bring in incremental sales numbers, at the same time customer response to these special models have helped us for future product development and planning. I am confident that the Ritz Genus will find great appreciation with customers for its new add-on features.”
Launched in May 2009, the Maruti Suzuki Ritz has delivered the best ever first-year performance in the domestic automobile Premium A-2 segment by registering sales of a whopping 68,130 units in its first year of sales. The Ritz Genus should have little trouble becoming part of the Maruti’s elite `Limited Edition’ clan, which includes bestsellers like the Swift, Estilo and the Alto.

Priced at Rs. 4,52,349 for the Vxi model and Rs. 5,31,410 for the Vdi variant, The Ritz Genus looks like a good option for those looking at buying a fully loaded stylish hatch with more than decent on-road capabilities.
The features of the limited edition Ritz ‘Genus’ include:
• To be launched in a new signature colour : Emerald Blue
• Keyless entry
• Tilt steering
• Parcel tray
• Distinct Body graphics
• Rear wash and wiper
• Radio + CD player with speaker
• Body side moldings
• Dual tone dashboard
