With just a couple of days left for Mahindra to take the wraps off the XUV700, more details have surfaced about the three-row SUV. Let’s delve deep.
For starters, the Mahindra XUV700 will feature Amazon’s Alexa (AI) connectivity. In fact, Amazon claims it’ll be the first model in India to incorporate this technology. Thanks to this, you can now control several functions via voice commands, including opening/drawing down the windows, setting the cabin temperature, operating in-car entertainment and navigation, checking traffic status, managing smart home functions, and finding parking spaces.

Of course, you can’t remain connected at all times while driving, but that’s no reason to worry. The Alexa virtual assistant will also support offline functions, including operating the sunroof and windows, switching to a USB or Bluetooth-connected smartphone, and adjusting climate control.

You can even perform a slew of functions remotely, like accessing vehicle information (we’re talking about checking fuel level or tyre pressure), giving out car locking/unlocking commands, and setting the cabin temperature in advance. All these can be executed through Alexa-enabled devices such as Echo smart speakers, FireTV, and of course, the Alexa app on your smartphone.

Another significant feature making its India debut in the XUV700 is Sony’s 3D sound system with roof-mounted speakers. The setup comprises 12 speakers, including a subwoofer and a 445W 13-channel digital signal processor (DSP). It also comes with what Sony calls the ‘Sound Building Blocks’ technology to create that 3D audio effect.

The XUV700 will be the first Mahindra model to debut the carmaker’s new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo. Its’s also been spied undisguised, which you can learn more about here. Earlier teasers had revealed a 10.25-inch dual-screen setup (for the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster), which will run on Mahindra’s new AdrenoX software. Also, expect features like a panoramic sunroof, an air filter, and dual-zone climate control.
The XUV700 will be powered by the Thar’s 2.2-litre diesel and 2-litre turbo-petrol petrol engines but retuned for more power. Likely transmission options are a 6-speed manual and front-wheel drive (for the base variant) and a 6-speed automatic with an all-wheel drivetrain (for the top-spec variants). The diesel engine will get four drive modes: Zip, Zap, Zoom, and Custom (Individual).

Mahindra is expected to retail the XUV700 at prices starting from Rs 16 lakh. It will rival the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, and Tata Safari.
