Well ain’t this a bombshell from Mahindra. Just hours after unveiling the XUV700 three-row SUV, the carmaker has revealed prices of the SUV which will start from Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom introductory). Surprisingly, Mahindra has managed to keep its pricing similar to its spiritual predecessor the XUV500 when it was first launched a full decade ago in 2011 at Rs 10.80 lakh.

There’s a catch in all this. Among the MX and AX (AdrenoX) trims it’ll be offered in, only the 5-seater petrol-manual variants upto the AX5 and the MX diesel pricing has been revealed so far. The SUV will actually also have a 7-seater layout, a top-spec AX7, more diesel variants and more automatic gearbox as well as all-wheel-drive variants on offer. Mahindra has said the prices for the remaining variants will be revealed soon.
The SUV comes loaded with a 10.25-inch digital drivers display and infotainment screens with Mahindra’s new AdrenoX software, Alexa AI, connected car tech, wired/wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof and a Sony 3D sound system.
Passenger safety will include seven airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, personalised safety alerts, and driver fatigue detection. There’s also the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) range of driver assists that comprises autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, high beam assist, and forward collision warning.
Beefier versions of the Thar’s 2-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine are under the hood, paired to either manual or automatic transmissions, and an optional all-wheel drivetrain for the diesel engine. That being said, the base diesel MX is limited to a manual transmission and front-wheel drive. Speaking of the diesel mill, there’s three drive modes to play with: Zip, Zam, and Zoom. Here’s a closer look at the engine and transmission combinations:

While the Mahindra XUV700 has started off with an unbelievable introductory price range so far, we’re yet to know the pricing for the remaining variants. Also, it could take until October, 2021 until deliveries commence. In fact, with this killer starting price, the XUV700 not only takes on three-row SUVs like the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Hyundai Alcazar, but also is an alternative to the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector and the Tata Harrier.
