Hyundai Creta

The Hyundai Creta is one of the most popular cars of the year and is one of the strongest contenders this year for both the SUV/UV of the Year award. With a whole range of engines that includes a 1.6-litre petrol, a 1.4-litre diesel and a 1.6-litre diesel on offer, the Hyundai Creta compact SUV made waves with high sales in India. The new compact SUV is also very well equipped, drives well and is a great package overall despite its slightly higher price range. The Hyundai Creta is also a nominee for the 2015 Car of the Year Award.

Mahindra TUV300

The Mahindra TUV300 is also a very strong contender for the SUV of the Year category and for the Car of the Year category. The compact SUV from Mahindra is a car we particularly like for its butch looks, well made interior and driving dynamics. Although the engine could have been a little better, the 1.5-litre diesel motor does offer good fuel economy and decent driving performance on both city roads and open highways. The Mahindra TUV300 also comes well loaded with features which include Bluetooth telephony and steering mounted controls.

Renault Lodgy

The Renault Lodgy is the only MUV in this category and is a promising car in its segment. With good looks, a very spacious interior that is also well made along with a host of features and amenities, the Lodgy makes a compelling case for itself. The new Renault Lodgy comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine that gets two states of tune and also a ‘Cross’ version called the ‘Stepway’ that offers slightly enhanced styling with an addon body kit and different colored wheels. On the whole, the Lodgy is a great choice for someone looking for a family MPV that is not very expensive and offers a lot of space.

Chevrolet Trailblazer

The Chevrolet Trailblazer is a full blown and full size SUV that personifies the large American SUV to the T. With a 2.8-litre engine making 200PS of peak power and 500Nm of peak torque mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, the Trailblazer is the most expensive candidate in the SUV of the Year category. The new Chevrolet Trailblazer is also a seven seater SUV that goes up against fierce rivals like the Toyota Fortuner in its category.
