The Kia Carnival is back on shelves after the nameplate was discontinued back in June 2023. Now in its fourth-generation avatar, the Carnival is back with more SUV-like looks, an upmarket cabin and plentiful features. There are some changes, though. For starters, unlike the previous-gen model that came in multiple seating options, the new one is offered only as a 7-seater.
It’s available in a single Limousine Plus variant, available with a single diesel engine, priced at Rs 63.9 lakh (ex-showroom). Kia has also announced that the Carnival has racked up 2,796 pre-launch bookings.
While the previous-gen Kia Carnival with its more rounded design looked more like… ahem… a van, the new one has a rugged SUV-like vibe to it.
The front-end is chonky, courtesy of the upright face dominated by a large Tiger nose grille, flanked by vertically stacked LED headlights. The bumper has a sleek air dam which hosts the ADAS radar and right below it is a skid plate that adds to the beefy look.
When you come to the side, you’ll notice the raked A-pillar and upright styling that gives it a proper SUV-like vibe. Adding to the look are the 18-inch alloys that gives the side profile a more sporty look. And as it is the case with all modern cars, the highlight element at the rear is the new set of connected LED tail lamps.
The Carnival’s cabin has been thoroughly overhauled and is now familiar to other Kia models, courtesy of the dual integrated screens on the dashboard. Right below it is the sleek AC vents running through the width of the cabin and below that, you get a mix of touch and physical controls for the climate control.
Kia is offering the cabin in a black / tan brown colour scheme. As mentioned above, the Carnival is available in India only in a 7-seater avatar.
Like any other Kia car on the market, the Carnival is loaded up with equipment. Highlights include a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, three-zone climate control, dual single-pane sunroof, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, powered front and rear seats with ventilation and a wireless phone charger.
Passenger safety is taken care of by eight airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors all around with 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system and Level-2 ADAS.
Things are familiar underneath the hood as the Carnival continues with its 2.2-litre diesel engine belting out 193 PS and 441 Nm. All that goes to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The prices of the Kia Carnival puts it at a no-man’s land with no direct rivals. However, it can be considered as a premium alternative to the Toyota Innova Hycross and Maruti Invicto. One can also consider it as a much affordable alternative to the Toyota Vellfire.
