2024 Kia Carnival Review - Expensive Family Car But Still Worth It?

Former Indian cricketer and CSK’s very own ‘Chinnathala’, Suresh Raina, has brought home the first Kia Carnival after its recent launch. The 2011 World Cup winner has taken delivery of the luxurious MPV, priced at ₹63.9 lakh, in the elegant Glacier White shade. The new Carnival will now share space with some impressive models already present in his garage.
After being discontinued in 2023, the Kia Carnival has made a comeback with a new-generation model that boasts a more posh and upmarket design, featuring an SUV-inspired look and a cabin loaded with premium features.
The latest-gen Carnival has been launched only in a single Limousine Plus variant in India and comes in just two colour options: Glacier White Pearl and Fusion Black. Unlike the previous model, this version is only available as a 7-seater.
The exterior now sports a bolder, more SUV-like stance, with a commanding front fascia that includes a large Tiger Nose grille and vertically stacked LED headlights. Its 18-inch alloy wheels give it a sporty look on the side, while the rear end follows the trend of connected LED tail lights.
Inside, the Carnival takes luxury up a notch with the dashboard featuring a dual-screen setup comprising a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The cabin is packed with amenities such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, three-zone climate control, dual single-pane sunroofs, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, ventilated power-adjustable front and rear seats, and a wireless phone charger. However, if Raina uses the rear seats frequently, he might miss the rear entertainment screens, which were offered with the older-gen model.
Safety is ensured by eight airbags, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, parking sensors, electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and Level-2 ADAS features.
Under the hood, the Carnival houses a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 193 PS and 441 Nm, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that powers the front wheels.
Just as Suresh Raina’s sharp fielding skills left batters with little room for error on the cricket field, the Kia Carnival finds itself in a league of its own in the market, with no direct rivals at its price point. More premium alternatives include the Toyota Vellfire and Lexus LM MPV.
