The Mercedes-EQ EQB is the German marque’s entry-level electric SUV in India with space for up to seven occupants

Mercedes-Benz India has launched the all-electric EQB SUV in the country. Offered in a single 300 4Matic trim, it is the German luxury marque’s entry-level electric SUV in India. What makes the EQB unique is the fact that it can carry up to seven occupants and is powered by clean electric propulsion. If you had your eyes on one, then scroll down, as we bring you all the important details of the SUV in 10 images.

Starting with the styling, up front, the EQB gets a closed-off grille with an LED bar connecting both headlamps. The bumper is relatively minimalistic with triangular-shaped faux air dams on either side.

The EQB, measuring around 4.6 metres long, isn’t exactly a large SUV. But its tall height, combined with the chunky wheel arches, give it a nice SUV-like stance. The electric SUV also rolls on aero-specific wheels, which is different from the ones offered on the ICE-powered GLB.

It’s at the rear where the EQB and GLB look completely different as the former gets bespoke connected LED tail lamps with the number plate housing shifted below to the bumper. Do you dig into this look or like the more conventional styling of the GLB? Let us know in the comments.

Nope, you haven’t suddenly stepped into a GLA or A-Class limousine as the EQB’s interior is exactly the same as in the models mentioned. One difference is that the dual 10.25-inch MBUX screen boast EV-specific user interface, while the equaliser like pattern on the co-driver’s side of the dash is exclusive to the EQB. Looks absolutely cool!

Space for the middle row occupants isn’t as impressive as its rival models. Plus, the cabin is quite narrow and you’ll be sitting quite close to each other. However, the EQB reclaims few brownie points by offering AC vents and a USB-C charging port for middle row occupants.

Mercedes has honestly admitted that the last row in the EQB is best for either short adults for small journeys or your furry friends. With all three rows up, there is barely enough space in the last row for luggage. So, we would recommend you to fold the floor down and majorly use the EV as a five-seater.

Top features in the Mercedes EQB are Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 10-speaker sound system, dual zone climate control, wireless phone charging, powered front seats with memory function, a panoramic sunroof and connected car tech. Passenger safety is taken care of by multiple airbags, electronic stability control and ADAS.

Powering the Mercedes-EQ EQB are dual electric motors putting out 228PS and 390Nm. They are fed using a 66.5kWh battery pack, which promises a WLTP-claimed range of 423km. Naturally, the EQB supports fast-charging with support over 100kW.

The EQB is a unique proposition in India as it doesn’t have any rivals in this particular space. However, the models that come closest to its price point are the Kia EV6, BMW i4 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge.
