With back to back hits from Mahindra in recent years, the carmaker has been struggling to meet the demand which resulted in humungous waiting periods. Especially the for likes of the XUV700 and Thar; both of which had a waiting period of up to 12 months not so long ago.
However, that time has now been reduced to a maximum of six months for the majority of the cities, as Mahindra has ramped up production for the SUVs. In cities like Delhi and Bangalore, the waiting time is down to just 90 days, although SUV-biased markets like Jaipur still have waiting periods going up to one year. Here’s how long you’ll have to hold your horses in the top 20 cities in India before you can drive either of the SUVs home:

While cities like Jaipur and Thane still command a maximum waiting time of 1 year, the time has been significantly reduced to two-three months in cities like Faridabad and Surat. This is a massive improvement over the peak waiting period of 19 months. It is worth noting that different trims will be carrying varying waiting periods depending upon their demand. For comparison, its immediate rivals, like the Tata Safari, still beat it with an average waiting time of just two months.

The Thar’s maximum waiting period has been brought down to 8 months in Thane and Pune. While in Delhi and Jaipur, the SUV can be had in just three months–the minimum waiting time for the SUV throughout India. On an average, the Thar has a waiting period of six months in the country.
Mahindra plans to expand its SUV portfolio as it is gearing up to debut the Thar five-door, which will take on Maruti’s upcoming five-door Jimny. The elongated Thar could also see high waiting periods at the time of its launch, although that will be contingent on its pricing and the value proposition of the SUV.
