The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a fantastic all-rounder, having the comfort and exquisiteness of an S-Class for a much lesser price. So, it’s no doubt that this sedan is one of the most popular Mercs not only in India, but around the world. Now, we all know that Mercedes has been hard at work with its successor and we now have a global debut date: April 25, 2023.
Along with announcing the debut date, Mercedes has dropped a teaser of a silhouette of its exterior. And by the looks of it, we can say the German luxury marque is playing the game safe as the design is evolutionary. The design elements such as the headlamps and tail lamps seem to be an evolution of the current model, which ain’t a bad thing as it’s influenced by the S-Class.

Like the current car, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is expected to be offered with standard and long wheelbase options. And for our shores, the latter is expected to be offered here, like the outgoing model, which is exclusive to India and China markets. The long wheelbase model is expected to debut in China first before making its way here.

Where things are revolutionary and groundbreaking is on the inside. Gone is the dual screen layout seen on older Mercs and in comes the brand’s spanking new Superscreen. It’s very similar to the Hyperscreen seen in the EQS, but up here, the digital driver’s display is housed in a separate housing. Take a closer look at it and its spanking features in this report.
Now, Mercedes is still hush about the E-Class’ powertrain options, but they will be market specific. So you can expect mild-hybrid versions of petrol and diesel engines, while there should be plug-in hybrid powertrain options as well. And of course, one can expect various AMG variants as well and we do hope Mercedes retains the mammoth 4-litre twin-turbo V8 as well. For India, we expect Merc to offer diesel, petrol and an AMG variant.

Considering that the new E-Class is one of the most popular Mercs in India, we suspect the new generation model to come sooner than later post its global debut. Expect it to command a premium over the current model that starts from Rs 76 lakh. It will continue rivalling the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6, both of which will soon get next-generation models as well.
