Tata Sierra Spotted Testing Yet Again, Top 5 Things You Need To Know Ahead Of Its Launch!

The Tata Sierra has been spotted testing in a heavily camouflaged prototype version ahead of its launch. The Sierra ICE version will be launched first, and the same iteration was spotted testing. It is expected to be followed by the launch of the Sierra EV in the second half of 2025. For some of the folks, the Sierra name needs no introduction and with this new-generation version, Tata aims to capture the essence of that OG model, but now in a more modern avatar.  

As we eagerly await the launch of the new Sierra in India, let’s first take a look at the top 5 things you need to know about the SUV: 

Design 

While not much was revealed in these spy shots as the test mule was heavily camouflaged, we could spot certain design elements which we could likely get in the production-ready version. 

The Tata Sierra’s strongest appeal lies in its design which is the perfect blend of retro and modern styling. In the spy shots, we could spot the air dam positioned below the grille and the sleek connected LED DRLs placed above the LED headlamps. The fully revealed version of the Sierra at the Auto Expo 2025 was spotted with gloss black grille and a chunky silver skid plate for a macho appearance.  

The Sierra was spied with multi-spoke alloy wheels indicating that it was a higher-spec variant. Previous spy shots of the lower-spec trims revealed smaller steel wheels. While the profile was properly camouflage, we know that the Sierra is nothing like your usual compact SUVs and has a charm of its own thanks to the rectangular rear window look which was the signature style of the OG Sierra. The boxy silhouette further adds to the macho looks. 

The rear end gets an upright look featuring a flat tailgate. While it wasn’t very evident, we could spot the  LED tail lights which seemed to be connected by a light bar for a modern touch. Interior 

While we could not decode anything about this test mule’s cabin from these spy shots as it was heavily camouflaged, the Sierra ICE’s interior was showcased at the Auto Expo 2025. Minimalism in terms of design is the new trend and Tata has taken the same route when you look at the interior of the Sierra. For a modern and premium appeal, it comes with a three-screen setup which almost takes up the entire width of the dashboard. 

As Tata does with most of its models, the interior could be offered in multiple colour themes based on the variant you choose. The one that was showcased at the Expo, featured yellow accents across the cabin, complementing the exterior hue. It sports a chunky-looking four-spoke steering wheel with the illuminated Tata logo which is now a common sight in most Tata SUVs. 

Features 

While Tata has not revealed the exact list features, we do have some expectations from the carmaker in this department. We believe that the features list could include the aforementioned three screens along with a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, a powered tailgate, multi-colour ambient lighting, adaptive cruise control, a branded audio system, dual-zone climate control and powered front seats with ventilation.

Passengers safety likely will be taken care of by level-2 ADAS features, ABS with EBD, a tyre pressure monitoring system, up to 7 airbags, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera. 

Powertrain 

The Sierra ICE is expected to be offered with a new 170 PS 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine, along with a 1.5-litre diesel unit. These engines will be offered with both manual and automatic options.

Moreover, it will also come in the electric version that is expected to feature multiple battery pack options. In the EV form, one can expect the Sierra to deliver a range of around 500 km. 

Expected Price And Rivals 

The Tata Sierra is expected to be priced from around Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). It will go up against popular compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate and MG Astor.

The Sierra will bring something new and unique to the compact SUV space along with a breath of nostalgia. Furthermore, attractive pricing could help its case even more.
