Skoda India has just announced that it has finally commenced the production of its new facelifted Kushaq SUV at its manufacturing facility in Pune, Maharashtra. This facelift, which was revealed last month, brings with it updated styling, a few new features and a big change under the hood! If you’re sold on the new Kushaq, here is a lowdown of all we know about it so far:
Being one of the most important models for the carmaker in India, the Kushaq has been a consistent volume puller, and after nearly 5 years since its launch, it now gets a comprehensive facelift to keep up with the times. The styling has been revised with a new front fascia consisting of slimmer headlamps, a reworked bumper and a new grille with an illuminated light bar.

The side profile remains largely unchanged, with the exception of a new design for the 17-inch alloy wheels. The rear-end has also been reworked, with a new connected LED taillamp cluster, a backlit ‘Skoda’ logo and a new bumper with a sleeker look. This facelift also brings some new colour options too.

Inside, the Kushaq facelift remains near-identical to the current model, with a layered dashboard and two-spoke steering wheel being retained. However, it now gets a larger digital instrument cluster and a new black-beige cabin theme (black-red on Monte Carlo variants) for an airier feel inside.

Feature-wise, it is equipped with an updated 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with AI assistant, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 6-way powered and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charger, ambient lighting, rear massaging seats, automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers and auto headlamps.

It also gets safety features such as 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, rear view camera, all-wheel disc brakes, tyre pressure monitoring system and front and rear parking sensors.

Under the hood, it gets powered by the same 1-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines; however, the former is now offered with a new 8-speed automatic transmission(which replaces the current 6-speed unit) in addition to the 6-speed manual. The latter, on the other hand, is only available with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Here are the detailed specifications of these powertrains:

While Skoda has not confirmed a launch date for the Kushaq facelift yet, expect a price reveal in the coming few weeks. Given these changes, it could see a slight price hike and is likely to be priced between Rs 11 lakh to 19 lakh (ex-showroom).

Skoda will offer the SUV in 5 variants called Classic+, Signature, Sportline, Prestige and Monte Carlo.
The Kushaq competes in the fierce compact SUV segment, with rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Citroen Aircross, Maruti Grand Vitara and Victoris, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, MG Astor and upcoming models like the Renault Duster, Nissan Tekton and the Volkswagen Taigun, which is based on the same platform.
With the Kushaq being a popular choice amongst enthusiasts in this segment, this development is sure to spark a lot of excitement. And now that the production is on track, we can expect a full launch of the SUV very soon. But will it be able to stand up to the fierce competition? That is something we will know only next month. Until then, stay tuned to ZigWheels for all the latest news on the Kushaq.
