The Scorpio N is the brand new Mahindra SUV to go on sale in Australia after a long long time. And while that’s good news, the SUV was lacking Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), which is a mandatory requirement for all new cars registered with the authority from March 2023 onwards. However, Mahindra has managed to register the SUV before this rule was implemented, thereby bringing the SUV to the continent without ADAS.
However, this escape clause is temporary as all new cars in Australia reportedly need to have ADAS as standard.
Hence, Mahindra will be offering the Scorpio N with ADAS features in Australia, as confirmed by a top-level executive to local media. Any new cars going on sale from 2025 onwards in Australia need to have ADAS as mandatory, so Mahindra has no choice, but to comply.
While it remains to be seen if Mahindra will offer the full suite of ADAS in Australia, we can confirm that the SUV will be fitted with Autonomous Emergency Braking as that’s a mandate. That said, we do hope Mahindra offers the full suite of ADAS as it offers this technology in the XUV700.
The next question? Will these ADAS features be offered in the India-spec model? No mention of that yet from Mahindra. But we do hope the SUV marque offers these features in India, considering that models such as the MG Astor, Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Verna and Honda City all offer this safety tech.
Currently, the Mahindra Scorpio N gets safety features such as six airbags, electronic stability control, a front and rear camera (No 360-degree), parking sensors, hill hold assist and ISOFIX child seat mounts. The SUV has also scored a full five stars in the Global NCAP safety tests.
