The Thar nameplate in India has a new addition, as Mahindra has just unveiled the 5-door Thar Roxx. Mahindra has also announced the starting price of the 5-door off-roader at Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom). While the full price list for the Thar Roxx is yet to be revealed, in this report we delve into what the entry-level MX1 variant of the Thar Roxx offers.
The 5-door Thar Roxx carries over a familiar silhouette but with new styling cues.
Despite being the base variant, the MX1 variant includes LED projector headlamps, a body-coloured six-slat grille, and 18-inch steel wheels.
It also features a dual-tone exterior shade. At the rear, the MX1 variant sports square-shaped LED taillights and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel as well. So you won’t have to stretch to the higher trims if you want the new LED lights on your Thar Roxx. However, it misses out the new LED DRLs.

Inside, the MX1 variant features soft-touch leatherette elements on the dashboard and door trims, while maintaining the cabin layout similar to the 3-door model.
It comes equipped with fabric seat upholstery and includes features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, push-button start/stop, a 60-40 split function for the rear seats, Type-C charging ports, height adjustable driver’s seat and rear AC vents.
On the safety front it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control and three point seat belts for all passengers.
The Thar Roxx is available with two engine options: a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. In the MX1 variant, the petrol-manual has an output of 162 PS/330 Nm, while the diesel-manual puts out 152 PS/330 Nm. Both of these are paired to a rear-wheel drivetrain.
A 6-speed automatic transmission is offered with higher-spec variants.
The Thar Roxx MX1 variant is priced at Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the turbo-petrol engine option, while the diesel-powered variant is priced at Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
Mahindra will announce the full price list for the Thar Roxx range on August 15, 2024. It competes with the Force Gurkha, while serving a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
