Hennessey-tuned Audi RS6 Shatters World’s Fastest Station Wagon Record

Christmas celebrations have begun early for Hennessey Performance as their specially tuned Audi RS6 Avant, owned by John Hennessey’s wife, has successfully shattered the speed record for the World’s Fastest Station Wagon. The best part is, Hennessey weaved in a bit of Christmas magic by attempting this record with a christmas tree on the roof. 

The RS6 that broke the record has a special engine tune that helps it develop over 800PS. For context, the mammoth 4-litre twin-turbo V8 in its standard guise puts out 600PS and 800Nm, helping the four-wheel drive estate do 0-100kmph in 3.6 seconds. A modified exhaust helps to keep weight low and provides a much throatier aural experience. 

Hennessey's Audi RS6 Avant is able to achieve a top speed of 330kmph, around 25kmph more than the standard model with the optional Dynamic Plus package. But Hennessey decided to have a bit more fun and strapped on a christmas tree on top of the estate. It significantly increased drag, but the tuned RS6 still managed to do a respectable 294.5kmph on full throttle, shattering the previous record of 291kmph, set by the 1,013PS Hennessey Jeep Trackhawk in 2019.

Here’s what John Hennessey, the company founder, had to say about the attempt:  “We wanted to see what my wife’s Audi station wagon would run without the tree and we managed 205 mph. Then, the real holiday fun began when we mounted a real Christmas tree on the roof. To our surprise, her wagon ran a very respectable 183 mph.”

In India, Audi retails the RS7 Sportback, which is nothing but the four-door coupe version of the RS6 Avant. Priced from Rs 2.17 crore, the swoopy coupe locks horns with the four-door Mercedes-AMG GT and Porsche Panamera sport sedans.
