Mini India has commenced bookings of the new Cooper S, which is expected to launch in the coming weeks. Interested customers can reserve the premium hot hatch on Mini’s official website. The new-gen Mini Cooper S might look familiar to the outgoing model, but it features a brand new minimalistic cabin and even more horses from its 2-litre turbo-petrol engine.

At first glance, the 2024 Mini Cooper S with its iconic design elements looks familiar to the outgoing model, but has plenty of sleek elements. The front-end, with its redesigned grille, flanked by round LED headlights with three customisable DRL signatures looks more minimalist and cleaner.

The side profile looks similar to the outgoing car, but what adds a breath of fresh air are the new wheel designs. Moving on to the rear, you get new triangular LED tail lamps with the iconic ‘Union Jack’ motif that’s connected by a black plastic applique.

While the exterior might look familiar, the interior is brand new. The dashboard looks minimalist, courtesy of the single 9.4-inch central touchscreen infotainment system that displays all the information. Yes, the driver doesn’t get their own display, but fret not, as there’s a head-up display to see all the relevant information.

Like previous Minis, you get toggle switches for important functions such as the gear selector and engine start / stop. Lastly, there is multi-colour ambient lighting with multiple intricate signatures that look super cool.

Underneath the hood, the 2024 Mini Cooper S’ 2-litre turbo-petrol engine belts out 204 PS and 300 Nm, an increase of 26PS and 20Nm over the outgoing car. Thanks to the extra horses, the acceleration from nought to 100kmph comes up 0.1 seconds quicker at 6.6 seconds. Like before, drive is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The outgoing Mini Cooper S is priced at Rs 42.7 lakh and one can expect the new one to command a notable premium. It doesn’t have any direct rivals, but can be considered as an alternative to the Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
