  • Upcoming Citroen compact SUV’s exterior and interior styling is inspired by the C3 hatch. 

  • Will get a familiar dashboard layout with a floating touchscreen and rectangular air vents. 

  • Should get the C3’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with manual and automatic options. 

  • Launch expected in mid-2023, prices likely to start at around Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom). 

Citroen’s upcoming compact SUV has been caught on camera at close quarters, wherein some of its interior styling cues have been revealed. We already know that the SUV will bear a resemblance to the C3 hatchback, but the latest spy shot shows similarities with the hatchback not only on the outside, but inside the SUV as well.

In the above picture, you can spot the SUV’s floating infotainment screen, which should be a 10-inch unit on the production-spec SUV, the same as the C3’s touchscreen. Lower down, the central air vents are rectangular units, with AC control dials placed below. The instrument cowl, gear knob and trim bits seem similar to the C3 hatchback as well.

We also expect the C3-based SUV to offer a third row of seats, similar to another French MPV, the Renault Triber. 

Citroen hasn’t revealed the powertrain details yet, but the C3 SUV should get the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit from the C3 turbo variant. It’s tuned for 110PS and gets a six-speed manual gearbox in the C3, but the SUV should get a higher state of tune and an automatic transmission option.

The C3-based SUV, which may be called the C3 Aircross, has been confirmed for arrival this year and should be launched by mid-2023. It’ll go up against the Hyundai Creta and Volkswagen Taigun, also presenting an alternative to people movers such as the Maruti Ertiga, XL6 and the Kia Carens.
