The Mahindra Thar Roxx was launched recently as a 5-door version of the regular Thar. The Thar Roxx is not just about having two extra doors, but it also boasts more powerful engine options, a butch design and premium features. Mahindra offers the Thar Roxx in a total of six variants: MX1, MX3, MX5, AX3L, AX5L, and AX7L. Let’s see how different the entry-level MX1 variant of the Thar Roxx looks compared to its top-spec variant.
Despite being an entry-level variant, the Thar Roxx MX1 doesn’t make you feel like it’s basic as it comes equipped with LED projector headlights and LED turn indicators, just like the top-spec AX7L variant. However, the base-spec Thar Roxx lacks the C-shaped LED DRLs and LED fog lamps found on the higher-end model.
What else makes the top-spec AX7L variant of the Thar Roxx look different here is its front bumper which gets a silver treatment whereas the entry model gets an all-black one.
From the side, you can easily make out the difference between base-spec and top-spec variants of the SUV. The Thar Roxx MX1 here gets 18-inch steel wheels whereas its AX7L variant sits on bigger 19-inch alloy wheels. Both variants of the Thar Roxx get a side foot step for easier ingress and egress.
Also, there’s a camera bulge on the ORVM of the top-spec AX7L variant of the SUV, indicating that it comes with a 360-degree camera setup.

Mahindra offers the Thar Roxx in dual tone paint scheme (with black roof), standard across all the variants. Another difference to note here is that the top-spec AX7L variant of the SUV gets a panoramic sunroof. Also note that this bigger version of the Thar only comes in a metal hard top option, unlike the regular 3-door Thar which can also be had in a soft top variant.

From the rear, even the MX1 variant of the SUV gets rectangular shaped LED tail lights. However the difference between the both variants is evident due to the tailgate mounted spare wheel as the top model comes with an alloy rim. Also, the rear bumper on the top-spec Thar Roxx gets a silver treatment where as the base version gets an all-black one.
Inside, both variants feature a black-and-white dual-tone dashboard. However, the top-spec AX7L variant adds soft-touch material to the upper part of the dashboard and door pads. Also, the base-spec Thar Roxx comes with black fabric seat upholstery, in contrast its top-spec trim comes with white leatherette seat upholstery, which is difficult to maintain.
Despite being an entry-level variant, the feature list on the MX1 variant of the SUV is quite impressive. It gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 4-speaker sound system, steering mounted controls, manual AC, all four power windows, push-button engine start/stop switch, and height adjustable driver’s seat. The infotainment system however doesn’t support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in any form.
The top-spec variant on other hand is loaded with an HD touchscreen of the same size which supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a fully digital 10.25-inch driver’s display, an automatic AC. ventilated front seats, 6-way powered driver’s seat, and a 9-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
For the added convenience of rear passengers, the second row seats get rear AC vents as standard.
The standard safety kit on the Thar Roxx include 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), rear parking sensors, and hill hold and hill descent control. The Thar Roxx AX7L additionally gets a 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, and level 2 ADAS.
