With its upmarket cabin, off-road capabilities and a sub-Rs 15 lakh starting price range, the Thar Roxx has reached the Indian market with a bang. The 5-door off-roader stands as an alternative to one of the carmaker’s other offerings like the Scorpio Classic.
And if you are in the market considering either of the two, we have simplified things for you by comparing the base models of both the Thar Roxx and the Scorpio Classic. Take a look at it.

When comparing prices, the Thar Roxx starts Rs 63,000 lower than the Scorpio. However, its diesel engine variant is priced Rs 12,000 higher than the 9-seater Scorpio S variant. Do note that the Mahindra Thar Roxx can be had as a 5-seater only.
Both SUVs have distinct design languages, each showcasing muscular styling. However, the Scorpio Classic appears taller due to its larger dimensions, which we’ll cover in detail in the next section.
Although these are base variants, the Thar Roxx does not fall short on exterior features. The MX1 variant gets LED projector headlights, LED fog lamps, and LED tail lamps, as well as a side footstep for easier ingress and egress, amenities missing on the entry-level Scorpio Classic. In contrast, the Scorpio Classic is equipped with halogen headlights and gets black finished side cladding. The base Thar Roxx is equipped with 18-inch steel wheels, while the base Scorpio Classic gets 17-inch steel wheels.

In the powertrain department, both the Thar Roxx and Scorpio Classic come with a 2.2-litre diesel engine. However, the Thar Roxx's engine is more powerful, delivering better power and torque figures. Additionally, it offers a turbo-petrol engine option, while the Scorpio Classic is limited to a single powertrain choice.
Both SUVs are offered with a 6-speed manual transmission in their base variants, but the Thar Roxx is also available with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission in higher-spec variants. Do note that the base MX1 variant of the Thar Roxx is only available with a rear-wheel drivetrain.
So at last, which Mahindra SUV should you choose? It ultimately depends on your needs. If you have a small family, the base Thar Roxx offers a better value-for-money proposition, with its superior equipment list, two engine options, and a longer wheelbase for improved second-row comfort.
However, if your priority is carrying six, seven, or even eight passengers, the Scorpio Classic is the only option for you in this comparison. As it is available with both seven and nine-seating layout choices.
Regardless of your choice, both SUVs have a commanding road presence, and you can’t go wrong with either.
