Volvo EX90 SUV has been globally unveiled in Stockholm.
To be offered with a 517PS all-wheel drive EV powertrain initially.
Powered by a 111kWh battery pack with a range of up to 600km (WLTP).
Available to order in select European countries, expected to arrive in India later on.
Volvo has unveiled the new EX90 electric SUV globally as its forthcoming flagship EV. It’s the most technologically advanced Volvo car ever, with a penchant for safety and passenger comfort. The Volvo EX90 is a seven-seater family SUV that’ll slot above the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge EVs, offering an all-electric alternative to the XC90 SUV.
On the outside, the Volvo EX90 is a sleek, aerodynamic EV that looks completely distinct from the XC90. In fact, it looks like a road-going spaceship with its sharp LED headlights, grille-less nose and prominent bump in the roof where the LiDAR sensor is located.
Viewed from the side, the EX90 has the familiar silhouette of a raised estate car, with 22-inch aerodynamic wheels and flush door handles.
At the rear, the Volvo EV has C-shaped split LED taillights with separate Christmas-tree lighting elements placed on either side of the rear windscreen.

Inside, the EV has a clean, minimalist design with clever touches such as ambient lighting concealed within the wood trim on the dashboard and doors. The EV has a slim but high-res digital driver’s display, smartphone key function, 14.5-inch portrait-style infotainment touchscreen with 5G compatibility and built-in Google OS; and a Bowers and Wilkins system with Dolby Atmos surround sound.
We already know that the EX90 will be upholstered in plush, environmentally conscious materials that include synthetic fibres made from recycled materials and natural fibres such as wool. Instead of using plastic interior panels, Volvo uses a composite material called Nordico made from pine resin and recycle PET bottles. The wood veneers on the dashboard are made from real FSC-certified wood that doesn’t harm the environment.
The Volvo EX90 has an advanced suite of active safety systems (ADAS) that continuously monitor the SUV’s surroundings. It has eight cameras, a radar system and LiDAR – a laser-based surround-view sensing system. Equipped with these features, the EX90 can ‘see’ 250 metres ahead even at night, warning you well in time about upcoming hazards.
The sensor within the EX90’s awkward roof bump also helps improve the Pilot Assist driver-assistance capabilities of the SUV.
Inside, apart from multiple air bags and seatbelts, the EX90 will come with an advanced driver attention monitoring system that can safely stop the SUV and call for help if the driver falls asleep or becomes ill while driving.

The Volvo EX90 will initially be offered in a single variant with dual-motor all-wheel drive and a 408PS output. Later, it’ll get a performance-oriented variant with a mammoth 517PS and 910Nm output.
A 111kWh battery pack will power the SUV, adequate for a driving range of up to 600km (WLTP). At its peak rate, it’ll be capable of fast charging from 10 to 80 per cent in around half an hour.
The Volvo EX90 is available to order in select markets overseas. It can be expected to make its debut in India sometime in 2023, rivalling the BMW iX, Audi e-tron, Mercedes EQC and Jaguar I-Pace EVs.
