The smooth and aerodynamic sedan is based on the E-GMP platform shared with the Ioniq 5

  • Hyundai Ioniq 6 is longer and lower than the Ioniq 5, which is more of a hatchback.

  • It has a minimalist interior design with a floating dual-screen panel, and gets features such as ADAS.

  • The Ioniq 6 showcased in India boasts a 77.4kWh battery pack and single and rear-wheel drive motor.

Hyundai’s new Ioniq 6 electric sedan is on display at Auto Expo 2023. It’s a sleek, low-slung sedan iteration of the E-GMP modular electric platform, with retro styling cues and a clean and minimalist interior design.

The Ioniq 6 is yet to be confirmed for India, but, if brought to our shores, it’ll be a rival for the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4.

Smooth, aerodynamic design

The Ioniq 6’s cab-forward styling and sloping tail end is unconventional, but it looks appealing with its sculpted bonnet with fender bulges and ducktail rear spoiler. It’s Hyundai’s most aerodynamic vehicle, with a drag coefficient of 0.21 Cd. For reference, most regular cars have a drag coefficient of 0.28-0.32 Cd.

Ioniq 6 specs and features

Internationally, the Ioniq 6 is offered with a 77.4 kWh battery pack, paired with either a 228PS rear-wheel drive and 325PS all-wheel drive powertrain options, while it's the former that has been showcased in India.

The EV offers a claimed range of 610km (WLTP) and has ultra-fast charging capabilities to charge from 10-80 per cent in 18 minutes. It also features V2L (vehicle-to-load) technology to power external devices and small EVs such as electric bicycles.

Inside, the uncluttered dashboard features a floating dual-display panel that houses a 12-inch digital driver’s display and 12-inch infotainment touchscreen paired with a Bose sound system. Its overall design is very similar to the premium and upmarket Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 6 also gets Hyundai’s SmartSense suite of driver-assistance features with highway driving assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance and driver attention warning.

If brought to India, the Ioniq 6 will likely be a few lakh more expensive than the Ioniq 5, which retails from Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom).
