Mercedes-Benz has showcased the G-Class Electric at the Auto Expo 2025, just a few days after its launch at the price of Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom). The electric iteration of the G-Wagen, sold in the G 580 variant, has already seen a massive demand and in fact, the first batch of vehicles have already been sold out. The electric SUV hopes to carry forward the legacy of the iconic ICE-powered G-Wagen with its eye-catching looks, premium cabin, and commendable powertrain specs!
Here’s a deep dive into the details of the electric G-Class:
The G-Class Electric gets the iconic boxy body style that has been a huge part of the G-Wagen’s design language over the years. It gets familiar round LED headlights and a blanked-off grille which houses the large Mercedes-Benz logo.
The SUV sports blacked-out 20-inch alloy wheels, aerodynamic air curtains, and conventional door handles. What stands out for me are the large window frames and the old-school design of the doors that still shut with a proper satisfying thud. You also get a side step for easier ingress and egress.

Moving to the rear, the flat tailgate along with the minimalist horizontal tail lights keeps the electric version true to its roots. Overall, the butch and brawny design of the G-Wagen is retained in the electric version.

The cabin of the G-Class Electric provides you with the perfect blend of ruggedness and top-notch premiumness. The interior combines the usage of the trendy digital screens and old-school physical buttons for your convenience and comforts. More importantly, rich materials such as open-pore walnut wood and soft Nappa leather are used across the cabin for a luxe experience.
The list of features might not be as flavourful as some other Mercedes cars in this price bracket, but you still get plenty of tech and premium amenities. Some of these include dual 12.3-inch displays (infotainment unit and driver’s display), a premium Burmester sound system, a 360-degree camera, multi-colour ambient lighting, a wireless phone charger and a suite of ADAS features.
The G 580 comes with a 116 kWh battery pack coupled with four electric motors that together churn out 587 PS and 1,164 Nm. The massive SUV is capable of doing a 0-100 kmph run in just 4.7 seconds, and has an electronically limited top speed of 180 kmph. The electric G-Wagen offers a WLTP-claimed range of 455 km, not bad for a heavy SUV with so much performance.
With the quad-motors, power can be sent precisely to each wheel and this also enables the SUV to perform a 360-degree tank turn which is both a feature you can flex with in front of your friends and a useful function at the same time. There is no compromise in the off-road department making the G-Wagen and SUV that can conquer territories that regular cars would be scared to enter.
Coming to the more practical bits, you get both 11 kW AC and 200 kW DC fast charging available with the SUV.
The electric G-Wagen is priced at Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom). It does not face any direct rivals in India, but globally competes with electric off-roaders like the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and the upcoming Defender EV.
