The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 electric concept takes its design cues from the timeless aesthetic proportions of the Maybach aero coupe from the 1930s

Mercedes fanboys, line up! The German luxury marque has officially showcased the Vision Maybach 6 concept coupe on our shores. This fabulous-looking concept might be a tad old as it was revealed globally back in 2016. But oh boy, it does look timeless with its perfect blend of retro and modern design touches.

So first things first, what’s it? The 6 electric concept is a two-plus-two coupe that pays tribute to the illustrious era of aero coupes and intentionally upholds this tradition as it progresses into the future. It’s also a powerful electric behemoth, capable of doing some seriously quick times while pampering you in the lap of luxury.

According to Mercedes, the design of the Vision Maybach 6 Concept draws inspiration from the 'classic aesthetic proportions' of the 1930s Maybach aero coupe. And that’s very evident in the way it is designed. We mean the extended hood, the rear-positioned passenger compartment, and the boat-tail rear end all serve to substantiate its classic origins.

It’s all retro and cool looking, but Mercedes has perfectly managed to fuse in a handful of modern touches to make it stand out. The Vision Maybach 6's visual appeal captivates with its gullwing doors, striking candy red 24-inch wheels, the imposing signature Maybach slatted front grille, streamlined headlamps and taillights, and the chrome accents along the sides.

And the fusing of modern and retro design touches is taken to another level on the inside! The Vision Maybach 6 concept lavish 2+2 seating interiors are adorned with extensive use of premium leather, glass, and finely crafted woodwork. It creates a seamless transition from door to door, with the side panels elegantly blending into the dashboard. And the retro-esque dials just look so damn good!

Mercedes has disclosed that the front windscreen is poised to serve as an information hub, utilising augmented reality to deliver geographical and contextual information about the surroundings to the driver. And the best part is that we do see this piece of tech in the brand’s flagships such as the S-Class and Maybach S-Class

The Maybach 6 is also no slouch, courtesy four electric motors, each positioned at one of its wheels, putting out 750PS! Yes, competition has moved on, managing to squeeze out the same power with dual motors, but keep in mind this concept broke cover back in 2016. That said, it’s no slouch, covering the 0-100kmph sprint in less than four seconds. Fuelling those four electric motors is an 80KWh capacity battery, good for a NEDC-claimed range of over 500km.

The Vision Maybach 6 concept showcased what the brand could do with its future Maybach offerings back in 2016. And it’s clear that certain of these design and feature touches made it to the new Maybach S-Class. And considering that the Maybach EQS sedan might be under development, we hope more of these advancements and design touches make its way into the future.

Also, there's good news if you want to see the concept live, in its flesh! The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept is on display for 3 months at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai. This is part of a tie up with Mercedes that will also offer customers exclusive experiences from all genres.
