In the upcoming month, Maruti is set to enter the EV space with the launch of its first electric SUV, the e Vitara. Upon launch, it will take on the likes of the MG ZS EV, which has been in the market for quite some time now. Does the ZS EV have an advantage due to its earlier presence, or will Maruti's first electric offering outshine it? Let’s delve in to find out.

Although the ZS EV is longer than the Maruti e-Vitara, it has a 115 mm shorter wheelbase.
This means the e-Vitara will offer better interior space, especially in the second row.
The MG compact electric SUV is also wider and taller than the e-Vitara by 9 mm and 14 mm, respectively, although the height includes its roof rails.

While both electric SUVs offer all the essential and good-to-have features, the Maruti e-Vitara stands out in this department.
It not only comes equipped with larger wheels but also offers you better convenience with 10-way powered seats along with seat ventilation, compared to the 6-way adjustment in the ZS EV.
However, both vehicles provide good practicality with split seats and enhanced safety with Level-2 ADAS.

Another key advantage of the Maruti e Vitara is that it will offer two battery pack options, while the ZS EV is available only with a single 50.3 kWh battery pack.
However, the electric powertrain in the ZS EV delivers better power and torque than the top-spec e Vitara.
Although the official MIDC-claimed range for the e Vitara is not out yet, Maruti claims it offers over 500 km in internal testing. In comparison, the ZS EV has a claimed range of 461 km, which is on par with the e Vitara’s numbers.
Maruti will announce the prices of the e Vitara sometime in March, but we expect it to be priced from around Rs 17 lakh. On the other hand, the ZS EV starts from Rs 18.98 lakh and ranges up to Rs 26.63 lakh (ex-showroom). Apart from rivalling each other, they lock horns with the Tata Curvv EV and Hyundai Creta Electric, serving as affordable alternatives over the Mahindra BE 6.
In conclusion, waiting for the prices of the Maruti e-Vitara seems like a better option, as it offers better interior space, multiple powertrain choices, and a few extra modern features.
However, if you prefer a peppier electric SUV, the ZS EV is the better pick of the two.
Additionally, MG now offers the ZS EV with its Battery-as-a-Service program, making it more affordable since you do not have to pay the full price of the vehicle upfront.
