The Tata Nexon EV is one the most successful electric SUVs out there in the Indian market. It was enjoying unhindered success until the time a rival from its own segment came into the picture: the Mahindra XUV400. So in this report, we are going to pitch both the electric SUVs for a detailed performance and real-world range test. So without further ado, let’s get things cracking.
Spec Check

On paper, it’s the Mahindra XUV300 that has the superior power and torque figures when compared to the Nexon EV Max. However, the Tata SUV has a larger battery pack here, by a whisker. That being said, despite having a more powerful motor and smaller battery, it’s the XUV400 that has the better claimed range figure.
Performance Comparo
In this race which involves no noise and revving of engines, let’s see which EV silently flies by the line quicker. It’s lights out and away we go, and the more powerful XUV400 gets the better start of the two and its extra power and torque figures helps it to pull away from the Nexon EV.

As a result, the XUV400 manages to beat the Nexon EV Max by around 0.7 seconds. That said, in the realistic world, the peppy nature of both the electric motors allows you to have fun behind the wheel.

Range Drain Test
As much as ‘Kitna Deti Hai’ matters for ICE vehicles, in EVs, the amount of kilometres you can realistically do on a single charge is a very important factor. And let’s be honest, achieving tested claimed figures in the real world is a task as those are… tested in very specific conditions.
We drove both the SUVs in a variety of mixed conditions: uphill, downhill, highways, country roads and jammed city conditions. And after trundling around for the entire day based on the aforementioned parameters, here are the results:
Mahindra XUV400 |
Tata Nexon EV Max |
|
Kms Covered On Single Charge (100 to 1 percent) |
289.5km |
293.3km |
It’s a closely fought battle between the two, with the Tata eking out slightly better range, thanks to a slightly less powerful electric motor and a larger battery pack.
Price And Verdict
Mahindra XUV400 |
Tata Nexon EV Max |
|
Ex-showroom Price |
Rs 15.98 lakh |
Rs 16.49 lakh |
This was a tightly fought battle, if we are being honest. The Mahindra XUV400 managed to beat the Nexon in the performance test, while it was vice versa in the range test. So to keep things fair, it makes sense to call this test a tie. They both make a great case of being your first electric family crossover.
