Mahindra seems focused on making the upcoming new-gen Scorpio more premium than it ever was. We got to take a closer look at the SUV on the outskirts of Pune, and boy does it pack some upmarket features…

...including captain seats and modes dedicated to offroading (first for the Scorpio). The SUV will also get a low-range gearbox (evident from the ‘4H’ and ‘4L’ buttons below the knob) to aid in tackling obstacles. Taking a closer look at the body, we noticed dynamic indicators like the XUV700.

Other important features onboard include a touchscreen infotainment system (probably with Alexa support like the XUV700), a single-pane sunroof, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, and probably the XUV700’s Sony sound system with roof-mounted speakers.
Passenger safety should be taken care of by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, 360-degree camera, and electronic stability control.

Under the hood, the Scorpio will get the XUV700’s 185PS 2.2-litre diesel and 200PS 2-litre turbo-petrol, but likely in a detuned state. A 6-speed manual and rear-wheel drive will be standard. Available as options are a 6-speed automatic and 4WD.

The wraps are expected to come off the new Scorpio in Q1 2022. At an expected starting price of Rs 10 lakh, the Scorpio will square off with compact SUVs, including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Tata Harrier, and MG Hector.
