Maruti Suzuki Fronx vs Kia Sonet: Which Turbo-petrol SUV Is Quicker?

In this edition of Zig’s performance report, we line up the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Kia Sonet. Both these cars get turbo-petrol power, and are known for their enthusiastic driving manners. The question we’ll be answering in this report, then, is which one is quicker in the 0-100kmph and roll-on acceleration tests. 

Spec Check 

On paper, it’s the Kia’s engine that has better numbers. That said, the Fronx’ powertrain has mild-hybrid tech, which offers a torque boost while driving hard. To keep things fair in this test, we have brought the manual variants of both the cars. 

Acceleration Test 

Despite the power deficit, it's the Fronx that beats the Sonet in the 0-100kmph acceleration run by 1.3 seconds. It’s mostly due to the fact that the Fronx’ proper manual transmission lets you do a better launch. That is because the Sonet iMT’s electronically controlled clutch only allows conservative launches off the line.

Even in the roll-on acceleration runs, the Fronx beats the Sonet in the third gear run. However, in the 40-100kmph test, the Sonet edges the Maruti crossover by a narrow margin. 

Price And Verdict 

In the confines of this test, the Fronx beats the Sonet in two parameters and therefore clinches the cup. That said, in the real world, both models offer more than satisfactory performance, well suited  for your daily chores.
