The S90, Volvo’s premium sedan, is now available for pre-booking. The car is expected to be  launched during the festive season and the price could fall in the ballpark of Rs 55 to 60 lakh (ex-showroom price). Our first impressions about the car are already out. Do read the road test.

The S90 is based on the manufacturer's latest production platform, named Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), which makes the new car both lighter and stronger.

Volvo India’s Managing Director, Tom von Bonsdorff, said, “The S90 is one of the most awaited launches from Volvo’s portfolio this year. It’s got everything you would expect a luxurious sedan to have: the look, the feel and the design, without any compromise on the comfort! The S90 comes with a sub 2L diesel engine and we are confident that it will change the dynamics of the segment in India. We are opening the pre-bookings for our patrons who would like to be the early ones to own the S90.”

The car looks very sublime, thanks to Volvo’s latest design scheme: the simple yet bold character lines, Thor’s hammer DRL set-up on the headlamps, the C-shaped taillights, and a typical three-box setup. The interiors too have a simple yet very luxurious set-up, and it has a lot of features to make the occupants feel comfortable -- ventilated seats, electrically adjustable front seats, an advanced infotainment system, 19-speaker Bower and Wilkins music system, to name a few.

Since it’s a Volvo, one can be assured of his/her safety while seated in this car. Apart from the tank-like build quality, the S90 gets a host of collision avoidance systems. For instance, a system that automatically applies the brakes upon detecting large crossing animals if the driver fails to apply them in time. It also gets features like lane-keep assist, 360-degree surround camera (four cameras that are strategically placed on the body of the S90 to give a bird's-eye view of the car), automatic high-beam dipping system to allow the driver of the approaching car to concentrate on the road, etc.

When launched, the car will stand head-to-head against the likes of the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Jaguar XF.
