With the year 2016 coming to an end we list down seven two-wheelers that were showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo but haven’t reached the showrooms yet

Two-Wheelers From 2016 Auto Expo That Haven’t Been Launched

The Delhi Auto Expo is a grand scale event where several manufacturers showcase their latest and future vehicles to the public. During this year’s event, several companies showcased upcoming models and future concepts along with the launch of new products. While several new or updated versions having hit the showroom, there are some that are yet to join the existing product portfolio of a few brands. Here are seven such two-wheelers that were showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo but are yet to be launched.

BMW G310R

BMW G310R:

Designed in Germany and manufactured at TVS’s Hosur production facility, the G310R is the first motorcycle put together under the joint venture between BMW Motorrad and TVS. The bike was displayed for the first time in India at the 2016 Auto Expo. The G310R is already on sale in the international market and is yet to be launched in India despite it being manufactured here. The reason for this delay can be credited to the fact that BMW Motorrad wants to officially enter the Indian market but is yet to set up dealerships in the country. The bike is powered by a 313cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor producing 35PS of power and 28Nm of peak torque. The cylinder head of the engine is rotated by 180 degrees, thereby achieving better fuel efficiency by allowing a straight path for the fuel and air mixture. Competition-wise, the BMW G310R competes against the KTM 390 Duke, Benelli TNT300, Mahindra Mojo and the Kawasaki Z250.

DSK-Benelli TrK 502

DSK-Benelli TrK 502

After making its debut at the 2015 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Benelli’s affordable adventure bike, the Trk 502 grabbed a lot of eyeballs at this year’s Auto Expo. The bikes features a beaky nose and twin headlamp design that is inspired from the Ducati Multistrada. The Trk 502 draws its power from an all-new 500cc, a parallel-twin motor that belts out 48PS of peak power at 8,500rpm and 45Nm of torque at 4,500rpm. The motor is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox that is controlled by a hydraulic clutch. The Trk 502 gets long travel suspension, off-road tyres, spoke wheels along with ABS and should be the cheapest performance adventure tourer when it goes on sale. The bike is still undergoing homologation which is pretty much the reason for the delay in launch. On the competition front, the closest rival to the Benelli TrK 502 will be the Kawasaki Versys 650.

Yamaha NMax:

With its sheer size, the Yamaha NMax conveys that it isn’t a run of the mill scooter. The NMax is a maxi scooter that was first launched in Indonesia. It follows a European step thru design language, which Yamaha feels is yet to gain traction in India. Also, Yamaha will have to consider manufacturing the scooter in India in order to have the NMax competitively priced in the market and this aspect seems to have delayed its launch. As far as the specs are concerned, the Yamaha NMax is powered by a 155cc, liquid-cooled motor that develops 15PS of power and 14.4 Nm of torque and comes mated to a CVT gearbox transmitting power to the rear wheel. With Aprilia SR150 setting up the trend for affordable performance scooters, we hope that Yamaha also joins the action soon,

Benelli 302R

Benelli 302R:

Showcased at the Auto Expo as the ‘Tornado 300’, the Benelli 302R is a fully faired motorcycle from the Italian bikemaker for our two-wheeler market. Powered by a 300cc twin-cylinder mill borrowed from the TNT 300, the 302R is capable of producing 36PS at 12,000rpm and 27Nm of peak torque at 9,000rpm. With top speed claimed to be 170kmph, the 302R is a bike that is aimed at young biking enthusiasts. The bike was initially expected to be launched during the festive season which got postponed to December and now to January 2017. The Italian manufacturer is in the process of having the bikes equipped with ABS which has been the reason for the delay. When launched, expect the Benelli 302R to carry a sticker price of around Rs 3.2 lakh (ex-showroom) while competing against the Yamaha YZF R3, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the KTM RC390.

Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin

Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin:

The rebirth of the legendary Africa Twin after almost two decades brought smiles on the faces of many biking enthusiasts. After launching the bike in the international market, Honda had showcased it at the 2016 Auto Expo. The pure adventure bike is powered by a 998cc, parallel-twin motor that produces 95PS of peak power and 98Nm of torque that comes mated to a DCT gearbox. The bike was rumoured for an official launch in this year which is now likely to happen by mid-2017. The delay is due to the fact that the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin will be brought to India via CKD route like the CBR 650F. When launched, the bike will rival the Triumph Tiger series and the Suzuki V-Strom 1000 in India.

Hero MotoCorp Duet-E

Hero MotoCorp Duet-E:

With several manufacturers coming up with different alternative methods to propel vehicles, electrical drive options are currently at the forefront. On the same note, showing interest towards eco-friendly methods, Hero MotoCorp had unveiled the Duet-E, based on the standard Duet that is currently sold in the market.  The scooter is solely powered by a 5KV, brushless, DC electric motor which is capable of generating a peak torque of 14Nm. With power drawn from Lithium-ion batteries, the Duet-E is claimed by the manufacturer to accelerate from 0-60kmph in 6.5 seconds. Other cycle parts like brakes, suspension, wheels and tyres have been carried forward from the Duet. Since its unveiling at the expo, there have been no reports on any further progress on the electric scooter. But given the rise in demand for electric two-wheelers, we expect Hero to launch the Duet-E soon.

Hero MotoCorp Xtreme 200 S

Hero MotoCorp Xtreme 200 S:

One of the biggest surprises at the 2016 Auto Expo was the Xtreme 200 S. We say that, because the Xtreme 200 S was the first self-developed performance oriented bike from Hero MotoCorp since its split with Honda. The bike hosts the most powerful engine yet, built by the company. The 200cc mill is a 4-stroke, single-cylinder motor that is rated to develop 18.6PS of power and 17.2Nm of maximum torque. The Xtreme 200 S follows a design ideology similar to that of the Xtreme motorcycle family but with more muscular and edgy proportions. It seems that the bike is still undergoing development and we expect it to reach production stage only by late 2017.
