It was a dream debut for Team Rayo Racing’s Formula Racing team in the recently introduced LGB Formula 4 category, in the 2nd Round of the JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship 2012.
In qualifying, Rayo Racing’s Sudarshan Rao put in a brilliant lap to get in to second place behind Ashwin Sundar of DarkDon Racing, closely followed by Meco Racing’s Vishnu Prasad.
At the start of Race 1, Sudarshan dropped to third, and a nail biting fight for the top spot ensued among the leading trio. Ashwin and Vishnu’s cars brushed a few laps later, which gave Sudarshan the opportunity to take the lead. He led the race for the next four laps but was overtaken on the last lap by Sarosh Hataria of WSRF Tiger Sports. The Rayo Racing driver crossed the finish line in second place a mere 0.2 second behind Sarosh.
The reversal of the grid in Race 2 put Sudarshan in third place but he quickly moved into the lead and opened up a hefty margin. But to the Rayo Racing driver’s misfortune, the race was red flagged and at the restart his car’s clutch got stuck which dropped him down to last place. However the never-say-die Sudarshan drove brilliantly to overtake four cars on lap 1 and in the course of a few laps he was up the order. Reclaiming the lead on the last lap Sudarshan drove to victory, an amazing feat by the young driver after being out of the sport for almost a year.
