The debut of the new 2015 Smart ForTwo is just around the corner, and a new teaser video gives us the best idea yet of the shape of the ForTwo, along with its four-door ForFour big brother. Overall, the new car has the same basic profile as the Smart ForTwo has always had, but it does feature slightly different proportions more like that of a typical small hatchback.
The teaser video hints at styling changes on the upcoming Smart models, drawing inspiration from its previous concepts including the Smart Forvision and Smart Forspeed introduced in 2011, Smart For-us and Smart Forstars from 2012, and the 2013 Smart Fourjoy concept. The video shows that the new Smart models will have a new front fascia, bigger tridion cell and hexagonal motif on the exterior and interior.
According to Daimler AG, the new Smart ForTwo retains its length at 2,690mm, but the width has been increased by 100mm to 1,690mm. Meanwhile, the Smart ForFour has been shortened by 262mm to 3,490mm. The compact exterior and the rear-mounted engines create a more spacious interior, and better ride-and-handling.
Both, the ForTwo and ForFour have been co-developed alongside the recently introduced Renault Twingo and will share large proportion of their mechanical running gear with one another. All models on this platform will be rear-wheel-drive.
The engine line-up is expected to include a three-cylinder 1.0-litre naturally aspirated unit delivering 70PS of power and 91Nm of torque as well as a 0.9-litre turbocharged motor producing 90PS of power and 135Nm of torque. A Brabus variant packing 100PS of power is also expected to be a part of the engine line-up.
More details about the new cars are limited for now. We expect more information about the Smart ForTwo and Smart ForFour to be revealed during the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
