Skoda Auto revealed sketches of the upcoming China-only Kamiq GT SUV on October 23. The design of the production SUV is based on the Skoda Vision GT concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show this year. Zac Hollis, Skoda’s Director of Sales, Service, and Marketing, teasingly tweeted inquiring if we wanted the Kamiq GT in India. The answer, Mr Hollis, is a resounding yes. The Director had told us at the Kodiaq Scout launch event that Skoda India, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India now, would launch five models before 2021, and we expected the Kamiq to be a part of the lineup. However, the China-only GT variant is a sportier version of the Kamiq, and we do want it in India. SAIC Skoda in China will unveil the upcoming vehicle on November 4.

The company claims that the SUV has been “developed exclusively for China and in China – [to] complete Skoda's SUV portfolio in its largest single market.” SAIC and Skoda co-developed the design, according to a press release from the company. The concept vehicle was seen first in China in June, at the Shenzhen International Auto Show. From the sketches, the Kamiq GT has redesigned headlamps which replace the high-brow LED DRL design of the Euro-spec model. Changes to the grille and bumper are also apparent. The Kamiq GT appears to have a slightly different rear end, with different rear windows and a slightly curvier Hoffman kink in the rear window glass.

The new model is also decidedly sportier than the Euro-spec Kamiq, with silver and black accents on the front and rear bumpers. SAIC Skoda will launch the car in Tianjin on November 4. Since it is the latest update of the Kamiq line, it is possible that the compact SUV which Skoda plans to bring to India is inspired by the Kamiq GT. If SAVWIPL goes the same route as Hyundai, the upcoming India-spec models may be similar to the ones in China.
