Peugeot conducts bhoomi pujan in Sanand, Gujarat

Following the State Support Agreement (SSA) on 1st September, 2011 the French car maker, Peugeot has conducted the ground-breaking ceremony at their industrial site in Sanand to mark the beginning of a new milestone, in line with Peugeot’s introduction schedule for its industrial and commercial settlement in India. 

Mr. Gregoire Olivier, Member of the Managing Board PSA Peugeot Citroen and CEO of Asian Operations, Mr. Vincent Rambaud, Director General of Peugeot and Mr. Frederic Fabre, Managing Director of PCA Motors India performed the bhoomi poojan and the ground-breaking ceremony.  The next step will be the completion of soil analysis which will be followed by ground levelling and the subsequent stages of laying the foundation for the site. 

The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Narendra Modi, commented on the occasion by saying, “Mr. Gregoire Olivier, Member of the Managing Board PSA Peugeot Citroen and CEO of Asian Operations, Mr. Vincent Rambaud, Director General of Peugeot and Mr. Frédéric Fabre, Managing Director of PCA Motors India performed the bhoomi poojan and the ground-breaking ceremony.”

The 600 acre site selected by Peugeot will see an investment of Rs. 4000 crores and the engine/gearbox plant will be a global supplier to Peugeot vehicles worldwide. This investment will add up to 5,000 new jobs for the automobile hub. The Government of Gujarat and Peugeot also have an intention of creating an Automotive Skills Development Institute (ASDI) which will be located within the Sanand Automotive cluster so that it can contribute to further development of the region. 

Peugeot has announced its entry into India with cars like the 508 and will be showcasing their India specific model line-up in the January 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.
