Toyota has launched a new entry-level variant for the Innova Crysta. Christened G Plus, the variant is priced at Rs 15.57 lakh for the 7-seater and Rs 15.62 lakh for the 8-seater configuration. The G Plus is only available with the 2.4-litre diesel engine with the manual transmission and not the 2.8-litre diesel or the 2.7-litre petrol.

While you will be paying Rs 38,000 less than the G variant, the G Plus does skimp on features. We are still awaiting confirmation from Toyota but sources tell us that the G Plus misses out on any sort of a music system, no armrest for the middle row in the 8-seater, and no rear defogger as well. But you will still have dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, a manual AC with vents for all three rows and 16-inch alloy wheels. Toyota has earlier introduced a touchscreen infotainment system along with steering-mounted controls, power-folding ORVMs with puddle lamps and auto door lock/unlock in the GX variant, making it slightly more expensive.

The 2.4-litre diesel motor powering the G Plus produces 153PS of power and 343Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The 2.8-litre diesel motor is available from the GX trim but not in the VX. It produces 174PS of power and 360Nm of peak torque and comes mated to an automatic transmission. The petrol option is a 2.7-litre engine with both manual and automatic option. It makes 166PS of power and 245Nm of peak torque.

The Innova Crysta rivals the likes of the Mahindra Marazzo and the Tata Hexa. With a majority of the Crysta sales coming from the flagship model, a lower entry price point does offer it more versatility in the market.
