Car makers have been introducing limited edition variants in an attempt to boost sales. Maruti Suzuki’s latest attempt is the limited edition Omni.
The limited edition Maruti Suzuki Omni comes with an outside rear view mirror on the left hand side, new seat covers, floor mats and a stereo with CD player and aux port that is hooked to four speakers.
The Omni is powered by Maruti Suzuki’s 796cc three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 37PS of power and 62Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a four-speed manual gearbox which sends power to the rear wheels. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the back. Upfront, the Omni uses McPherson strut suspension while the rear suspension consists of leaf springs.
The Maruti Suzuki Omni was launched in India in the year 1985 and the very same van is still on sale 28 years later in our market. Over the years, the Omni ditched the carburettor for a fuel injection system as per emissions norms and lost its voluptuous roof which made a brief comeback in 1999.
In the Omni’s lifespan, Maruti introduced an ambulance variant of the van, an eight-seater version and a cargo variant with CNG option to capture a greater market share which is being eaten into by modern vehicles.
Prices of the Maruti Suzuki Omni range from Rs. 2.25 lakh to Rs. 2.51 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
