Yazid and Jeffri were switching positions right from the word go and had a neck to neck battle but the Petronas racer finished half of a second behind Yazid. “I struggled a lot with my car towards the end and it was hard to handle in sector three and four. I just kept a consistent pace. I feel happy about the race and it was very interesting towards the end,” the Meritus driver said after the race.

Jeffri gave a toughie to Yazid and did not make his second place a piece of cake. The Malaysian driver was happy with the way his team has worked on the car and even more on his 2/2 podium finish.

Lower down the order Jimmy Antunes of Atlantic Racing Team faced electrical issues from the start but managed to finish in 17th as the chequered flag waved. Hiqmar Danial smoothly found his way up to fourth after he sped past D. Padayachee in lap 5. Petronas racer I. Ilyaas also overtook Padayachee and finished in sixth. Andrew Kharpov did well to finish in 10th place after he and team-mate Raj Bharath were demoted to the end of the grid by the race stewards for usage of wrong tyres in qualifying. Bharath finished in 12th place.

With this victory and the additional two points of qualifying on pole, Auer leads the drivers’ table by a mere 2 points over Jeffri who is on 32 points. Afiq Yazid is in third place on the drivers’ table after finishing third in both the races. The next race will be hosted in the Asian Festival of Speed at the Korean International Circuit from 6-8 May.
