We had earlier reported that Toyota’s upcoming sub-compact SUV, the Raize (also called the Rise) was leaked on the web ahead of its official debut. Now, more leaked images of the upcoming compact SUV have surfaced giving us a better look at it from various angles. This sub-compact SUV could be a strong rival from Toyota against the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300 in the Indian SUV segment. For India, it could potentially house a Suzuki powertrain owing to the joint venture between Toyota and Suzuki.

While the Raize differentiates from the Rocky with a Toyota-like front-end, they do share the headlamp design. Now, the new images reveal the rear-end of the SUV, and we can tell you that it will sport a similar design to the Rocky with wraparound tail lamps. We also get a look at the rear with the boot lid open. However, the images aren’t clear enough. Dimensions are yet to be revealed, but it is expected to be similar to the Rocky. Interior equipment could include silver inserts, a floating touchscreen, and driver tilted aircon vents.

Expect the Toyota Raize to be powered by a 996cc petrol engine like the Daihatsu Rocky. It produces 98PS of power and 140Nm of torque and is mated to a CVT transmission. Toyota could also offer an option of four-wheel-drive for the Raize. However, in its Indian-specification, the Raize could be powered by Maruti Suzuki engines, owing to the joint venture between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki.

There is no word yet on an accurate launch timeline, but it will be introduced in November this year. Expect an India launch for the compact SUV around 2020. Aside from the Raize, Toyota is also planning a bigger compact SUV, the Rush, as well as a mid-size MPV, the Avanza. Once launched in India, expect the Raize to take on rivals such as the Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon.
