New Hyundai Elantra: 5 Things To Know

• The Elantra facelift will be offered in three variants and five colour options.

Hyundai is all-set to give the Elantra a fresh lease of life as the recently revealed facelift will be launched in India tomorrow. The refreshed sedan sports a variety of changes inside and out. As we head closer to the launch, here’s all you need to know about the upcoming sedan.

Design

Exterior enhancements include a restyled front-end with a larger single-piece grille and triangular LED headlamps. Other changes include a new set of revised alloy wheels while the rear-end comes with a redesigned tailgate and number plate on the bumper. New LED tail lamps top off the exterior updates.  While Hyundai hasn’t revealed the interior shots of the sedan yet, we expect it to be almost the same. 

Features

The Elantra facelift is expected to carry over features from the current car like the 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, ventilated and powered front seats, electric sunroof, wireless charging and hands-free smart boot. Additional kit may include the steering wheel from the Kona Electric and chrome elements like the international-spec car. Hyundai has already confirmed that the facelift will get Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car tech as seen on the Venue. Safety kit includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control and hill start assist.

Engines

Under the hood, the Elantra facelift will come powered by a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre petrol engine. In BS4-guise, the engine produced 152PS and 192Nm and we expect it to be the same in its updated avatar. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a torque converter unit. The 1.6-litre CRDi unit that develops 128PS and 260Nm won’t be offered with the updated sedan. However, it could get the Seltos’ BS6-compliant 1.5-litre diesel unit at a later date. The Seltos’ diesel unit develops 115PS and 250Nm.

Price & Variants

We expect the Elantra facelift to be priced at a premium of up to Rs 25,000 over the current  petrol variants. They are priced between Rs 13.82 lakh and Rs 18.92 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It will be offered in three trim levels - S, SX and SX (O). The 6-speed automatic transmission will be offered in the higher-spec SX and SX(O) variant. However the top-spec SX(O) variant will not get a manual transmission, limiting the facelift to four variants. 

Rivals

Once launched, the Elantra facelift will rekindle its rivalry with the Skoda Octavia, Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla Altis.
