Honda ADV 150: 5 Things To Know

Honda created waves at this year’s Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) by taking the wraps off the ADV 150. You don’t often come across an ADV scooter in a small-capacity scooter segment. So, what is it all about? We put all your doubts to rest:

Gets a modern liquid-cooled engine:

The Honda ADV 150 draws power from a 150cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor, mated to a variomatic transmission. It produces 14.5PS of power at 8500rpm and 13.8Nm of torque at 6500rpm. Honda has equipped the motor with Idling Stop System, which essentially similar to the Hero MotoCorp’s i3S (idle Stop Start System). It automatically switches off the engine when it idles in traffic, and turns back on again on twisting the throttle. With this feature turned on, the scooter returns a claimed efficiency figure of 46.6kmpl. This coupled with the 8-litre fuel tank should ensure over 370km on a tank full, theoretically.

Moreover, starting the motor is also smooth thanks to the presence of Honda Alternating Current Generator (ACG) starter. It essentially eliminates the need for a separate starter motor and instead, it uses the same generator powering the electrical system to crank the motor as well. This is claimed to ensure a silent startup as there is no noise of the gears meshing.

Is loaded with features:

Honda has equipped the ADV 150 with a massive 28-litre underseat storage. If that isn’t enough, the scooter also gets a small apron-mounted storage compartment on the left with a DC charging port to juice up your electronic devices. In a first for a 150cc scooter, the ADV 150 gets a two-level adjustable windshield, which should make your highway jaunts a bit easier.

The scooter also comes with Honda Smart Key and alarm system for optimum security. With the smart key, you could turn on the scooter by just being in close proximity. There’s also a nifty safety feature called the Emergency Stop Signal (ESS). It automatically turns on the hazard lamps when the scooter brakes suddenly. However, this feature is only available in the ABS-equipped variant. The negative backlit LCD instrument console houses useful information like average and instantaneous fuel consumption, dual tripmeter readouts, oil change indicator, clock, date readout and even an ambient temperature gauge (a first in class).

Packs premium underpinnings:

The scooter gets a double-cradle frame with a telescopic fork and twin Showa gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear. For better mild off-road performance, the 14-inch front and 13-inch rear alloy wheels are wrapped with dual-purpose tubeless tyres. At 165mm, the ground clearance is pretty decent for this kind of scooter.

That being said, we’d have liked it if Honda had equipped the scooter with spoke wheels which would allow better flex while having fun off the road. Brakes include 240mm front and 220mm rear petal disc. The scooter comes in two variants: CBS or single-channel ABS.

Gets X-ADV-inspired design:

The ADV 150 comes with a design language that has been inspired by the X-ADV, a middleweight adventure scooter. There are numerous aggressive, muscular lines on the bodywork, and the bulbous apron is dominated by twin LED headlamp setup. At the rear, the scooter gets a large “X” shaped tail light. The sharp bodywork coupled with the brushed metal finishes on the sides lend the scooter a properly premium look.

Is reasonably priced, but will it come to India?

Honda has priced the ADV 150 at Rp. 36.5 million (around Rs 1.8 lakh) for the ABS variant. This version comes in two colours: red and white. On the other hand, the CBS-equipped version is priced at Rp. 33.5 million (approximately Rs 1.65 lakh) and is available in four colour choices, namely matte brown, silver, matte black, and red.

It is unlikely that Honda will launch the scooter in India given the 150cc scooter segment in India itself is a niche space. Moreover, even if Honda brings the scooter via the CKD route, its pricing would be too expensive, especially considering the fact that it is still a 150cc scooter.
