So far, 2025 has been an exciting year for car buyers in our country, with the reveal of highly anticipated models at the Auto Expo, followed by EV launches recently. The upcoming quarter looks even more promising, particularly for enthusiasts, as it’s expected to bring in performance-focused models, including an ICE-powered hatchback. In this report, we look at the top 5 car launches you need to keep an eye on in Q2 of 2025.
We are well aware of the upcoming launch of the Maruti e Vitara and its significance for the brand. Apart from the pricing, most details about the electric SUV are already out, with the model even spotted at a few dealerships. It is expected to be priced around Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom), with a launch likely by the end of April 2025.
The eVX will directly take on the recently launched Hyundai Creta EV, which claims a range of 473 km in its top variant. Maruti’s first electric SUV is expected to match that, offering up to 500 km of range with its 61 kWh battery pack. Apart from that, the e-Vitara will also be offered with a 48.8 kWh battery pack, paired with a single electric motor setup delivering 144 PS and 192.5 Nm of torque.
After being showcased at the 2025 Auto Expo, Tata Motors revealed the Harrier EV in early March. It sports a similar design to the ICE-powered Harrier while featuring EV-specific elements inside and out. Although the exact powertrain specifications are still under wraps, Tata has confirmed that it will come equipped with a dual electric motor setup and an all-wheel-drive system.
The Harrier EV is expected to offer a claimed range of over 500 km. It is likely to be priced around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom), with launch expected by the end of June 2025. Upon launch, it will take on the likes of the Mahindra XEV e9 and BYD Atto 3.
Ever since Volkswagen announced that it would bring the Golf to India, specifically in its GTI form, it has created quite a buzz among enthusiasts. Notably, it has been spotted testing on Indian roads, and a few dealerships have even started accepting its unofficial bookings. However, the Golf GTI is expected to arrive in only 250 units, so if you’re eyeing one, you’d better hurry.
It will be brought in as a CBU (Completely Built Unit). The Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that puts out 265 PS and 370 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 250 kmph. As for the pricing, we expect the Golf GTI to be priced at around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Along with the Golf GTI, Volkswagen is all set to introduce the new-gen Tiguan in India, more precisely in its R-Line variant. The Tiguan R-Line gets visual updates both to its exterior as well as interior to give it a sportier appeal. It will be powered by a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 265 PS, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Key features include a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, an 8-speaker audio system, a panoramic sunroof, and 3-zone automatic climate control. Volkswagen is expected to launch the Tiguan R-Line by late June, with a likely price tag of Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom).
MG is expected to launch the Cyberster by the end of May at a price of around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). However, this price could come with a catch, as buyers may have to opt for MG’s BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) rental plan. That said, for a roadster delivering 510 PS and 725 Nm from its electric powertrain, the pricing seems rather aggressive.
The Cyberster can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds and offers a WLTP-claimed range of 443 km. It will be sold through the brand’s Select dealerships, and bookings are already underway. Key features include a 7-inch infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, and ADAS tech.
With a range of models set to enter the Indian market in Q2 of 2025, the above-mentioned launches stand out in their respective segments. The e Vitara is set to make the electric compact SUV segment more attractive, while the Harrier EV will serve as a compelling alternative to Mahindra’s latest electric SUVs. The VW duo will not only cater to India’s premium car buyers but will also appeal to enthusiasts. Meanwhile, with the launch of the Cyberster, MG aims to make owning an EV more exciting for Indian buyers.
