The Babaj RE60, unveiled originally in 2012 to the public at the Delhi Auto Show has yet now seen a confirmed production schedule. That said, with frequent sightings of the test prototypes and mules doing frequent rounds on both the Mumbai-Poona expressway and outskirts of both the cities, the much awaited launch of the production version might not be very far off.

The one seen here seems to be a basic and no-frills version which might eventually also find applications in the public transport sector by replacing the likes of the auto rickshaw. As seen in the pictures, the RE60 still maintains its puny dimensions, which will make it ideal for inter city transport solutions in older cities like Delhi. The RE60 in this format also gets an extremely basic dashboard and interior with basic seat upholstery and manual wind up windows.

What makes this particular test mule particularly interesting to us is the fact that it has a CNG sticker on the rear windscreen which indicates an alternative fuel solution right from the time of launch as compared to the likes of the Tata Nano that did not have a CNG option when it was originally launched. We also spot a lockable engine cover which instead of being opened through a lever on the interior will have to be manually opened through the locking mechanism on the cover itself. The RE60 also gets an external fuel filler cap unlike the Tata Nano which will make it easier to use in urban conditions.
